How to Copy an Instagram Post Link on Any Device

The share menu is the most reliable place to copy a post URL on iPhone and Android. It gives you the address for the individual post rather than a profile, feed, or search page.

Instagram changes the position and appearance of its controls from time to time, but the workflow remains the same: open the post, open its sharing options, and copy the link. You do not need to send the post to another person to get its URL.

On a computer, first open the individual post page. If you are looking at a profile grid, select the post so its unique URL appears in the browser address bar. Copying the profile URL will not identify a specific piece of media.

Select the address bar and copy the complete address. Keyboard shortcuts are usually the quickest option: Control+C on Windows or Linux and Command+C on macOS. You can also use the browser context menu and choose Copy.

A typical copied post URL looks like https://www.instagram.com/p/POST_CODE/. The value after /p/ identifies the post. Instagram may append query parameters such as an igsh value after a question mark. Those parameters are generally used for sharing or attribution and are not the post identifier.

You can usually submit the copied URL as it is. If a pasted value contains surrounding text, remove everything before https:// and everything after the URL. When troubleshooting, keeping only the origin, /p/ path, and post code makes the input easier to inspect.

Open a private or incognito browser window and paste the URL. This quick check approximates what a no-login downloader can access. If the post is visible without an Instagram session, it is public at the time of the test. If Instagram asks you to sign in before showing the post, the downloader may not be able to resolve it.

Public availability can change. A creator can make an account private, delete or archive a post, restrict it by region or age, or change who can see it. A link that worked earlier is not a permanent guarantee of access.

If Copy link does not appear, update the Instagram app or try the three-dot menu. You can also open the post in a mobile browser and copy the address there. If the clipboard keeps an older URL, copy the link again and paste it into a plain-text field before returning to the downloader.

A correct-looking link can still fail when the post is private, deleted, unavailable to your region, or temporarily blocked upstream. Repeated rapid submissions rarely fix those conditions. Recheck the URL once, confirm public access, and wait before retrying if Instagram is temporarily limiting requests.
